lawgirl is a Hebrew-language writing site by Mirabelle Gazit: stories, essays, close readings, and fragments from the archive.

Over the years, my writing has moved through several worlds — law, cinema, literature, dance, the body, illness, memory, and everyday life. Sometimes a text begins with academic research; sometimes with a chance encounter on a bus, a scene from a film, a court case, a small object, a name, or something that refuses to disappear.

I am drawn to moments in which one thing appears through another: law through story, the body through movement, memory through an object, one film through another, a person through a name given, changed, kept, or taken away.

This site is a place for texts that do not always want to stay within one clear boundary. Some are stories, some are essays, some are close readings of texts and images, and some are freely reworked from older academic writing. Not everything here is personal, but even what is not entirely personal is written from somewhere — with a history, a point of view, and a voice.

Most of the writing here is in Hebrew. Readers who arrive through Instagram, LinkedIn, or elsewhere are welcome to wander, translate, and enter through any door that looks interesting.

Sometimes a small detail is where the whole story begins.
